Welcome To Derwent Lower School

Derwent Lower School is a friendly, successful school which is situated between Lower Stondon and Henlow, in Bedfordshire.  Our school buildings and grounds have an open aspect and are spacious and attractive.  Pupils have access to a large field and two playgrounds, as well as an enclosed pond area.  Our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes each have their own outside learning areas for use during the school day.

We are a values based school, where children are encouraged to respect and appreciate each other and their surroundings.  Children's work is displayed in the corridors and classrooms, making an attractive school environment.

School is organised into five separate year group classes from Reception to Year 4.  Our classes are named in the following way:

Reception        - Hedgehogs Class
Year 1             - Rabbits Class
Year 2             - Owls Class
Year 3             - Mice Class
Year 4             - Foxes Class

School Curriculum

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and the National Curriculum.  Planning is organised into themes and it is our aim to inspire children and to foster a love of learning.  Maths and English are taught as separate lessons and Phonics taught from Reception class, using the Letters and Sounds scheme.

Parents and carers can access the Schools Learning Platform, with a log-in, and see their child's class activities and events.  A link to the Learning Platform can be found within the 'Class' and 'External Links' tabs.

Our School Prospectus can be found under 'Our School' tab.

Parents and carers are welcome to visit the school at any time.  Please contact the school office - 01462 812047.
