Football Club
Derwent Lower Football Club [DLFC] is a not for profit organisation which was formed in September 2010.
DLFC is run by CRB checked and FA Qualified Coaches based in Stondon & Henlow Camp. The Club has four squads including boys and girls from Reception/Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 & Year 4 age groups.
DLFC has been formed with the support of Stondon Parish Council and is a Member of Bedfordshire FA. DLFC is targeting FA “Charter Standard” status in 2012.
DLFC is open to all boys and girls aged between 4-9 living in Lower Stondon, Henlow Camp, Henlow and surrounding areas. Derwent Lower FC focuses on the fun aspects of football, encouraging the children to enjoy participating and developing their football and social skills and not concentrating on playing competitive games.
From Spring to Autumn, the club meets each Saturday morning at Derwent Lower School on their playing field – each session usually lasts around an hour and starts at 9.00 am. During the winter months, for the benefit of the fragile souls known as the coaches, the training sessions take place in the cosy warmth of the Sports Centre at RAF Henlow. Again these sessions start at 9am.
Day passes/car passes are organised in advance for those who need them to access RAF Henlow and are available for collection from RAF Henlow Guard House directly adjacent to the traffic lights at the camp entrance. Please let Keith Steele or Kevin Smith know if you and your child/children will be attending a training session on the RAF base – see below for contact details.
The club works closely with MK Dons FC to promote football in the community; DLFC have attended matches at MK Dons, provided match mascots & held training sessions at the MK Dons Training Ground.
The Club also organised a Coach Trip to watch England vs. Spain at Wembley in Autumn 2011 – an event that was thoroughly enjoyed by the Coaches, the players and their parents and one that the Club hope to repeat in 2012.
